Is This An Example Of 21st Century Skills???

My wife was correcting a math page done by her 4th graders. She finds one where the print is “grainy” … not like the rest. Why? Turns out one student lost their page … calls friend who has already completed problems … so the friend makes a copy and “whites out” the answers and the work they did, then faxes new “blank” page to classmate.

Is this what we mean by 21st century skills??? Part of me says yes,

Identity and Student Bloggers

(via Clancy Ratliff) Interesting couple of threads running through the higher ed universe regarding how students should refer to themselves in their class blogs. It’s not so much a safety issue at that level as it is a student being linked to work that is less than excellent issue. Like what happens when someone does a search on them before a job interview and the freshman comp essay full of misspellings and grammar errors pops up. Jill Walker says

What matters?

I read Karl Fisch’s post about What Matters? with great interest. I think Karl and his group of teachers are really doing a fantastic job with their students. We need to hear more about what is going on with our students. I recently skyped with Karl and Anne Smith. It was great to connect and talk possibilities. Anne Smith has the most amazing blogs. I have poured over them and I think the thing I like the best is the way she includes her students in the reflecting and thinking process. It is front and center and the focus is always on the students. Anne says:

A School of Voices

Last week I finished up a blogging project with elementary kids (sniff, sniff). It’s hard to let go of these wonderful groups of students. So I thought I’d jump into another project I’ve been wanting to try.

I have a blog “A School of Voices.” I created it to encourage voices from students and teachers everywhere to get their voices heard about events that are going on in the world today. Current events needs to be discussed by students and teachers so we can learn and grow together and be responsible global citizens. It was active for awhile but with all the research I’ve been buried in this year it was neglected.
