One of the reasons why I think Manila might be the best suited software out there for building a school Website is the flexibility and functions that it has behind the scenes. Now I don’t know about MT or the other open source alternatives, but I’m not sure how many other Weblog packages could facilitate a workable solution to the content review requirements that my superintendent has asked for. I think Manila has.
What I’ve been struggling with is finding a balance between the districts desire to ensure quality content on the site in terms of appropriateness and correctness and a process that will not be so cumbersome that teachers or staff members wouldn’t be willing to post to the site. With the help of my redesign team, I think we’ve come up with something that will work.

Yesterday I posted about the book, Meaningful Learning Using Technology: What Educators Need to Know And Do and a specific chapter about the factors of effective technology professional development. Today I’d like to go into more detail on the research results.
The chapter, Fostering Meaningful Teaching and Learning with Technology: Characteristics of Effective Professional Development paints a compelling model of how to create more comprehensive professional development offerings by looking at more than one type of professional development solution. No “one stop shop” professional development is going to be as effective as a blended model.

How much fun is it to say that?
If you’re here because of today’s series of stories in the Washington Post on educators blogging, let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the “edublogosphere” and to a really great conversation about how blogs and wikis and podcasts and other Web publishing tools are changing what we do in our classrooms and impacting student (and teacher) learning. (If you’re not here because of the Post articles, go read them!) Personally, I think it’s great that this conversation has finally gotten some coverage from the maninstream media. I’m really hoping it encourages more educators to dip their toes in the water, so to speak, and start considering the power and potential of the “Read/Write Web,” the one where it’s just as easy to create content and share it with wide audiences as it is to consume what’s already there.
