Web 2.0 is all the rage. You can tell it’s hot because half the sessions at educational technology conferences have 2.0 in the title. Soon they will be labeled 3.0 to show that they are really, really, really cutting edge.
Web 2.0 is a collective term for the “read/write” web, meaning that people who use the Internet are no longer passive content consumers, but are actively creating material for themselves and others. Grandmas, nuclear physicists, army privates and cab drivers are blogging, podcasting, uploading videos, sharing photos, finding friends, socializing, and much more. For many teachers, these tools offer exciting opportunities for students to express themselves and take command of technology that stretches the mind and reaches outside school walls.

Father G. Simon Harak 'Takes Five'Priest brought peace center to Marquette Posted: Nov. 25, 2007
Father G. Simon Harak, a Jesuit priest with a doctorate in ethics from the University of Notre Dame, is well into his first semester as director of Marquette University's new Center for Peacemaking. Harak was brought to Marquette in January to teach theology and to explore creating the center. Marquette already offered an interdisciplinary minor in justice and peace studies. Harak, 59, formerly a professor at Fairfield University, opposed United Nations sanctions against Iraq by helping to found Voices in the Wilderness, and spoke against war profiteering as the national anti-militarism coordinator for the War Resisters League. He was interviewed by Journal Sentinel reporter Tom Heinen.
