Twelve teachers from Waukesha County schools were among 110 educators statewide who earned national certification this year, qualifying them for the state's new master educator license, the state Department of Public Instruction has announced.

The Best Laid Plans

Some weeks ago, I shared exciting news that my students were collaborating with a girls’ school in Israel on a joint wiki writing project. Just as we got our wikis off the ground, a teachers’ strike in Israel put our plans on hold. The strike has now lasted more than a month. If it is not resolved before the winter break in about three weeks, the project will be on hold indefinitely as my students will be writing a research paper from January to March.

Midlothian Young People Reach for the Airwaves

Nine young people from all over Midlothian took part in radio training with Media Education last week.

A community radio licence application is currently underway and it is hoped that if successful the station will become the voice of the Midlothian, with people of all ages from all over the area taking part.

During the training the young people gathered opinions from local people in Dalkeith, before editing the material together to create short pre-recorded segments to insert into their show. Topics that are relevant to them were chosen and pieces on anti-social behaviour, drugs and music were produced.
